Foreign minister meets OSCE Chairman-in-Office's special representative

Tiraspol, 25 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The foreign minister of the PMR, Vitaly Ignatyev, has met today the special representative of the OSCE chairman-in-office, Wolf Dietrich Heim.

The foreign diplomat also attended an informal meeting of the chief negotiators of Pridnestrovie and Moldova, which had taken place in Bendery several hours earlier.

When opening the meeting, the Pridnestrovian foreign minister underscored that despite rather dynamic contacts with the current OSCE chairmanship-in-office and the work of expert (working) groups, the problems are not being solved, but rather piling up.

According to Ignatyev, the most serious of them is the issue of food transit across the Pridnestrovian-Ukrainian border. He also added that at the technical level there were draft solutions to a number of issues, but without international support the existing problems between the parties were unlikely to be resolved. According to the minister, the current international support is insufficient.

He reiterated the need for a «5+2» format meeting in the near future, noting that «this venue is not only for dialogue, but also for solving the existing problems.»

Wolf Dietrich Heim, in turn, expressed hope for the work of the parties' experts. According to him, expert groups are to meet in the coming days to discuss issues in various spheres.

As for the «5+2» format, the special representative said that the next «Permanent conference…» meeting would require the political will of both sides. Earlier this year Pridnestrovie repeatedly called for an early meeting in this format.
