PMR foreign minister: negotiation success does not only depend on OSCE chairmanship's performance but rather on sides

The OSCE special representative expressed confidence that more than one meeting in the "5+2" format would be held during the year

Tiraspol, 19 January. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Austria, which succeeded Germany as the OSCE chairman, is set to achieve practical results in the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and Moldova. This was announced by the special representative of the OSCE chairmanship-in-office, Wolf Dietrich Heim, following his meeting with the acting foreign minister of the PMR, Vitaly Ignatyev.

«We have plenty of issues to address during the negotiations, and we hope this process will be successful. In fact, during our meetings we touched upon the same problems that were discussed during Germany's OSCE chairmanship. But there are new subjects, approaches, and I think if the sides show flexibility, we'll see real results," said the Austrian diplomat.

Heim expressed confidence that through the mediation of the OSCE the sides would meet more than once in the «5+2» format. According to him, now everything depends on «how well issues which are to be solved during such meetings will be prepared».

The Pridnestrovian foreign minister, in turn, noted that the success of the negotiations does not only depend on the performance of the OSCE chairmanship, but rather on the sides.

«Success depends on the willingness to make a compromise… We have plenty of projects and solution models. The Pridnestrovian side has proposals on most of the problematic issues, including elaborated projects, international assessment, a conclusion by EU education experts, a conclusion by the EUBAM Mission, in particular on road transport. There is, however, a certain lack of readiness among our Moldovan partners to compromise. We hope we'll be able not only to discuss problematic issues but to resolve them during this year," concluded Ignatyev.

The range of issues the sides will raise throughout the year will also include those reflected in the Berlin protocol. Among them are the issues of telecommunication, road transport, politically motivated criminal charges and education.

«I hope the working nature of this meeting — an in-depth look into various spheres — will help all of us to get things moving and follow the plan," concluded Vitaly Ignatyev.
