Head of Gagauzia: Maya Sandu established an authoritarian regime in Moldova

Irina Vlakh commented on the revocation of licenses for broadcasting Russian-language TV channels in Moldova

The head of Gagauzia, Irina Vlakh, said that the suspension of licenses for broadcasting 6 TV channels in Moldova is a serious challenge to the rule of law, democracy, freedom of speech and pluralism of opinions.

“The ruling party questions our ability to distinguish between white and black, truth and fiction, information and disinformation. Moreover, this means that the voice of the opposition and dissenters will no longer be heard on the air,” she said in a video message posted on the social network Facebook.

“Unfortunately, today Maya Sandu has established an authoritarian regime in Moldova under the guise of democracy. The press is the last enemy that democratic power must fight. Is this the power we chose?” Irina Vlakh asks.

The head of Gagauzia said that she was waiting for the reaction of international institutions, the organization Reporters Without Borders, and human rights activists on this Moldovan authorities` scandalous decision.

Recall that the day before, the Commission for Emergency Situations of Moldova decided to revoke the licenses of six Russian-language TV channels: Orhei TV, NV6, NTV Moldova, Accent TV, RTR Moldova, and Primul in Moldova.
