For many years, light candles have been lit at the Glory Memorial in memory of the attack of Nazi troops on the Soviet Union. The event is attended by the leadership of the republic and the city, representatives of public organizations, cadets, pupils of Suvorov Military College, young army members, and Tiraspol residents.
"This date is very important to me, since my great-grandfather, Terentiy Lukyanovich Panchenko, fought and defended our country. He died during the Iasi-Chisinau operation not far from our home," young army member Gleb said.
Ilya Didyk, a member of the Young Spectator's Theater Blue Bird of the City Palace of Culture, did not just come to the event. He took part in a theatrical performance, playing the part of a dead soldier.
"This day is very important. We need to pass on the memory of this tragic date from generation to generation. Today I am wearing a uniform from those years, today I am in the role of a Soviet soldier who went to war and whom his mother received a death notice for. This is part of the theatrical performance that we prepared for this day,” Ilya said.
The requiem meeting ended with a minute of silence. In the early hours, to the sounds of the metronome, the people of Tiraspol honored the memory of all who died in this terrible war. They laid flowers afterwards.
The first President of Pridnestrovie Igor Smirnov notes that this is the most important thing we can do for the dead, to remember them and appreciate their contribution so that we can live peacefully and calmly.
“We did not give our land up in the 40s and in the 90s, when the Soviet people defended our right to live here. This is the deep meaning, this is why we are concerned that our generation understands that there is nothing more precious than the Motherland, our Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic,” he said in an interview with journalists.
