Yevgeny Shevchuk: Peacekeeping operation must continue until political resolution to conflict found

In an interview with journalists the head of state highlighted the significance of the peacekeeping operation carried out on the Dniester's banks under the aegis of the Russian Federation.

The President noted that the format change of the peacekeeping mission is discussed from time to time. However, the Pridnestrovian side considers it inadmissible under unresolved conflict.

"We state our position which is confirmed by the corresponding declarations signed by the sides. According to them, the peacekeeping operation must continue until the political resolution to the conflict is found. Only after that can we consider the possibility of changing the peacekeeping operation's format," said Yevgeny Shevchuk.

The President paid special attention to the fact that Pridnestrovie strictly complies with previous agreements. The head of state considers the conflict sides should stick to the principles underlying the peacekeeping operation.
