Tiraspol, 24 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Today, Pridnestrovie's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has hosted a meeting between the acting foreign minister, Vitaly Iganatyev, and the OSCE high commissioner on national minorities, Astrid Tors. The meeting was also attended by the minister of education, Tatyana Tsivinskaya.

It is Astrid Thors's third visit to our country. She came here for the first time right after she had taken up the post of high commissioner.

«Such monitoring visits are an excellent opportunity to discuss pressing issues which are within the high commissioner's competence. It is very important for Pridnestrovie to inform the high commissioner on the current situation with rights and freedoms," said Vitaly Ignatyev, while opening the meeting.

He specially underscored: «Unfortunately, Pridnestrovian citizens are currently facing the whole range of problems and restrictions caused by Moldova's unilateral restrictions and certain actions taken by the Ukrainian side. These problems apply to all Pridnestrovian residents, irrespective of nationality.»

Moladavians, Russians and Ukrainians account each for a third of the aggregate number of Pridnestrovian residents. There are three official languages in the country: Moldavian (based on the Cyrillic alphabet), Russian and Ukrainian.

Astrid Thors, in turn, has underscored: «I'd like to take advantage of this meeting to discuss more general education issues. During my last visit I was proposed to visit some schools.»

As the OSCE high commissioner has noted, she intends to visit a school in the Butor village, Grigoriopol.
