Russian human rights activist called for upholding Pridnestrovian right to independence

Alexander Brod believes that sanctions should be applied to Moldova for actions against Russian civil figures

Tiraspol, December 12 /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. According to a member of the Presidential Council for the Civil Society and Human Rights’ Development Alexander Brod, Chisinau’s attempts to prevent the Russian public from visiting Pridnestrovie only draw additional attention to these elections.

“The refusal to provide an opportunity for international observers to enter the republic has led to the fact that they start talking about Pridnestrovie,” Alexander Brod noted. Such a theme has been actualized again. The Russian and Pridnestrovian Foreign Ministries statements’ supporters as well as expert community’s representatives’ negative comments. Moldovan authorities have put themselves in an awkward position. In this case, when they don’t recognize Pridnestrovie, then why are they so excited about local elections? Therefore they consider Pridnestrovie a real political entity, within which normal electoral processes take place, where there is an expression of citizens’ will.”

Alexander Brod noted that in recent years, external pressure on Pridnestrovie has intensified. And an attempt to discredit the PMR presidential elections in this regard is quite indicative. In any event, Moldova has shown itself to be an uncivilized and illegal state. Therefore, the Russian authorities should pay more attention to the Pridnestrovian problems.

“Chisinau’s clumsy actions for restriction of the human rights defenders’ entry again encourage real people to support the Pridnestrovian people choice in independence favor,” Alexander Brod stressed. According to him, it’s clear that there can be no further common path for him with Moldova since it has shown itself to be an aggressive and unfriendly neighbor. It’s necessary to defend the Pridnestrovian right for independence and to achieve the blockade lifting.”

Alexander Brod reminded that Russia recently granted Moldova a discount on natural gas and got slapped by Moldova, which didn’t allow Russian citizens to enter its territory.

“I suppose that the answer to this should be not only the Russian Foreign Ministry statements but also sanctions against Moldova,” the Russian human rights activist emphasized.

We should remind you that Moldova refused to allow Russian citizens through its border, who intended to participate as observers in the PMR President’s elections. Among them is political scientist Natalya Narochnitskaya, members of the Russian Public Chamber Vladimir Zhuravlev, member of the Presidential Council for the Civil Society and Human Rights’ Development Alexander Brod, Deputy Director of the CIS Countries Institute, Professor Vladimir Egorov.
