Slobodzeyan region, July 29. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Today, the 33rd anniversary of the Russian peacekeepers entrance was honored in Pridnestrovie. The flower-laying ceremony was held at the Peace Arch “Blessed are the Peacekeepers” at the exit from Parkany village towards Bendery to remember the key event to ensuring security and stability on the Dniester River.
At the memorial event, the head of PMR Foreign Affairs Ministry Vitaly Ignatiev emphasized that maintenance of peace still remains an absolute priority for every party involved in the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian settlement. According to Foreign Minister, the peacekeeping operation on the Dniester has proven its effectiveness after all these years.
“Considering the world instability, considering global conflicts, regional conflicts, the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian direction is a good example... This is a unique peacekeeping experience that can be applied in other conflict zones,” Vitaly Ignatiev emphasized.
It should be reminded that on July 29, 1992, the first Russian peacekeeping forces landed at the Tiraspol airport (paratroopers of Pskov and Tula divisions). On the same day, the peacekeepers arrived in Dubossary, and the next day they entered Bendery. They were met by Pridnestrovian residents near the Parkany village. Twenty-five years later, the Peace Arch “Blessed are the Peacekeepers” was installed at this place, where memorial events are held annually.
