Irina Vlakh: Moldova approaches Sudan and Libya in terms of freedom of speech

The Head of Gagauzia commented on the blocking of some Russian-language news sites in Moldova

Moldova will soon be able to compete with Sudan and Libya in the degradation of freedom of speech on the Internet and access to information. This opinion was expressed by the Bashkan of Gagauzia, Irina Vlakh, according to the Sputnik-Moldova telegram channel.
She drew attention to the fact that the deputies of the ruling PAS party in Moldova have already launched in the public space information that “censorship on the Internet is being improved”.
“Under the pretext of combating misinformation online, freedom of expression will be restricted,” Vlakh said, adding that the current Moldovan authorities will block information and opinions that they do not like.
Recall that, the day before, the Information and Security Service (ISS) of the Republic of Moldova decided to block access to two Russian-language news portals - Eadaily.com and Bloknot.ru. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that that was another step by Chisinau aimed at completely ousting Russian-language content and Russian-language media from the information space of the Republic of Moldova.
In 2022, the Moldovan authorities have already blocked several Russian and Russian-language resources, including the Sputnik-Moldova news agency website. And at the end of 2022, the licenses of 6 Russian-language TV channels were revoked in Moldova.
In addition, information appeared in the Moldovan telegram channels that the Moldovan authorities plan to monitor private correspondence in instant messengers using expensive software.
