Moldova actually imposed a “tribute” on the Pridnestrovian economy

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pridnestrovie commented on the forced collection of customs duties by Chisinau on goods imported by Pridnestrovian companies

Tiraspol, January 5. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Moldova has started to collect compulsorily customs duties on goods imported by business entities of Pridnestrovie. Thus, economic agents of the PMR are forced to pay double customs duties. No explanations were received from the political representative of Moldova on the substance of the problem. This was reported by the press service of the PMR Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Foreign Ministry emphasized that Moldova actually imposed a “tribute” on Pridnestrovie, which “does not and cannot have any legitimate grounds either within the framework of existing agreements or in the context of the notorious pan-European norms and principles.”

“Such an inadequate measure once again emphasizes the inability of the Moldovan side to negotiate and has nothing to do with civilized political and diplomatic approaches within the framework of the international negotiation process. We regard Moldova’s actions not only as a form of economic pressure on all citizens of Pridnestrovie, but also as a direct undermining of the common efforts of international participants, including the OSCE Chairmanship-in-Office, aimed at normalizing the dialogue between the parties,” the PMR Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The foreign policy department of the PMR appealed to the international participants in the negotiation process with an appeal to assist in preventing further pressure measures that violate the interests of citizens of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.
