Tiraspol, July 25. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The situation in the economy of Pridnestrovie is very difficult, yet Tiraspol does have the survival experience, the head of the PMR MFA Vitaly Ignatiev told RIA Novosti.
"In order to prevent the economy and the social sphere collapse, we have to take extraordinary measures: for example, a flexible mechanism for paying salaries in the budget sector has been in effect since this month. In general, the current situation can be described as very difficult. However, Pridnestrovie has special experience in surviving in difficult conditions," Ignatiev said.
The head of the Pridnestrovian foreign policy department also reported that Pridnestrovie continues to experience the complex impact of the most severe humanitarian and energy crisis. According to him, industrial production has decreased by almost half, while foreign trade turnover has decreased by a third.
"Very negative forecasts for the decline in GDP by the end of the year. There are difficulties with the gas resource related to the short-term nature of the supply agreements and a number of technical aspects that force us to take measures to save it,” Ignatiev noted.
According to him, all available resources are being mobilized to fulfill social obligations to the population, including by cutting other budget expenditure items.
“In addition, our situation is significantly worsened by the blockade and restrictive actions of Moldova. Problems with the export of products from Pridnestrovian enterprises, illegitimate customs duties, and a banking blockade remain,” Ignatiev added.
Recall that since August 2023, Moldova has not allowed the Moldavizolit, Elektromash, and Potencial plants to export their products under the pretext of the alleged dual-use of goods. Since January 1, 2024, Chisinau introduced illegal customs duties against Pridnestrovie.
At the beginning of 2025, natural gas supplies to Pridnestrovie ceased. This was due to problems with transit through Ukraine and unsettled relations between Gazprom and Moldova. The interruption of gas supplies led to a severe energy crisis, which triggered humanitarian and economic crises.
