New exhibits have opened in the Pridnestrovian Local History Museum

They tell about the post-war Soviet period of development, about the Afghan war and about the period of formation of the PMR

Tiraspol, September 3. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. President Vadim Krasnoselsky, Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov, Prime Minister Alexander Rosenberg, deputies and members of the Government, as well as the head of the capital's state administration Ilona Tyuryaeva took part in the ceremonial opening of new exhibits in the Pridnestrovian Local History Museum.

Next to the exhibit dedicated to the events of the Great Patriotic War, a new museum hall has opened, telling about the post-war Soviet period of the Pridnestrovian development. The museum display cases contain genuine artifacts of that almost legendary era: products of industrial enterprises, documents, awards, photographs.

In the display cases, you can see the personal belongings of the honorary citizen of Tiraspol, director of the factory named after 40 years of the Komsomol (now Odema) Valentina Solovyova, as well as the sports uniform in which Tiraspol resident I.S. Safronyuk carried the Olympic flame in 1980.

In the "Soviet" hall, they reconstructed a typical living room in a Tiraspol apartment from the seventies and a small section of the legendary "hundred-meter street" on today's Pokrovskaya Street in Tiraspol with a barrel of kvass and a soda machine.

The Tiraspol state administration prepared a surprise for the opening of the new exhibits. It consisted in the fact that everyone could buy and try pies with potatoes, cabbage and jam, made according to the same recipes as those that were once sold at the Tiraspol "hundred-meter street".

"The hall takes us back to that good period when the country was huge, there were no gadgets and means of communication, people met and communicated with each other in person. Of course, it is nice to remember those times when you were little, then studied at school, at the institute, - the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the PMR Alexander Korshunov noted. - I was an Octobrist, and a pioneer, and a Komsomol member. I remember it all. We remember this time with warmth, when all nationalities, and the Soviet Union was a multinational state, all people lived in friendship, communicated with each other, there were no national disputes, national strife, everyone lived as a single whole. We are very happy that we managed to create such a museum that tells the story of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic and the Pridnestrovian people at various stages."

It would be wrong to think that the Soviet era was so idyllic. Next to the restored "hundred-meter street" there is a stand telling about the Pridnestrovians who participated in the liquidation of the Chernobyl accident, while the neighboring hall is dedicated to the military actions in the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan.

In the "Afghan" hall: internationalist soldiers` authentic personal belongings; weapons; photographs; awards; a large map of the General Staff, showing what the long-term Afghan war meant for the Soviet Union.

The first tour of the new hall was conducted by Igor Buga, deputy of the Supreme Council of the PMR and chairman of the Pridnestrovian Association of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan.

"Mine warfare is the most terrible thing," Igor Buga said, among others. "Not being able to fight in open terrain, the "boots" mined everything they could. Here is a "petal" mine, here is an infantry mine, sapper equipment: heavy body armor, probe, blasting machine, belt. All the exhibits are real."

At the end of his tour, Igor Buga recalled a quote from a song by Alexander Rosenbaum: "The flame of the Pridnestrovian war was born on an Afghan fire."

Another new hall of the museum is dedicated to the history of the creation and formation of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic and its present day. In the display cases of the hall are photographs, documents and books about the events of the late eighties - early nineties.

Next to them are weapons and means of communication, the Battle flag of one of the companies of the Republican Guard, a list of combat losses of one of the units, samples of military uniform: Cossacks, guardsmen, militiamen, fighters of the territorial rescue squad.

In addition, the display cases of the exhibition tell about the Republic Day. They include: banknotes and coins of the Pridnestrovian Republican Bank, products of industrial enterprises, even the Sheriff football team uniform.

According to the director of the Local History Museum of Pridnestrovie, Alexander Mukan, exhibits for the new halls were collected from all over the republic.

"We collected them bit by bit," he said. "We got some things from the funds where they had been collected for many years. We restored the furniture ourselves. A lot of work has been done."

As Alexander Mukan noted, today after classes, Tiraspol schoolchildren will be able to see the new exhibits. And then the exhibits will be further developed. The museum staff plans to open another hall dedicated to the creation of the PMR.

President Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized in his Telegram channel that the creators of the Pridnestrovian Local History Museum preserve history, making it accessible and interesting. The head of state thanked everyone who was doing this great and important work.

Today, a tour was also held in the Nikolai Zelinsky House Museum.
