Tiraspol, December 28. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pridnestrovie officially informed the Moldovan side and all international representatives in the 5 + 2 negotiation format on the temporary suspension of the PMR's participation in the Vehicle Registration Points mechanism. The reason was the actual blocking of this mechanism by Chisinau over the past week. On December 22, Moldovan customs officers unjustifiably detained a shipment of neutral and Pridnestrovian license plates.
As noted by the Foreign Ministry, the measures taken through political and diplomatic channels to unblock this shipment as soon as possible have not produced any results.
“This destructive step by the Moldovan side grossly contradicts the basic agreements of the negotiation process and directly the Protocol Decision of April 24, 2018. We consider the actions of Moldova to block the delivery of license plates to Pridnestrovie as a deliberate creation of obstacles to the normal planned operation of the vehicle registration mechanism at the relevant points in Tiraspol and Rybnitsa,” the PMR Foreign Ministry said.
The participation of Pridnestrovie in the VRP mechanism will be suspended until the moment of a comprehensive normalization of the situation.
Recall that the vehicle registration points (VRP) in Tiraspol and Rybnitsa were created after the signing on April 24, 2018, of the Protocol Decision on the participation of vehicles from Pridnestrovie that do not carry out commercial activities in international road traffic. In VRP, private car owners can get neutral license plates, without which today it is not only impossible to travel to the EU countries, but also Ukraine.
Since September 1, as you know, Kyiv, at the suggestion of the Moldovan authorities, has banned vehicles with Pridnestrovian license plates from entering its territory. This gave rise to a crisis of the movement of vehicles from the PMR, which has not yet been resolved.
