Mourning and memorial events are taking place today in all cities and districts of Pridnestrovie. Rallies and flower-laying ceremonies at the monuments and graves of the fallen defenders and victims of the Moldovan terror are organized everywhere. Not only residents of Bendery are remembered, but also all those whose lives were cut short by the war unleashed against the inhabitants of the Pridnestrovian land. 804 people, according to official data.
A series of memorial events traditionally takes place in Bendery on June 19. The largest one is at the Memorial of Memory and Sorrow in terms of the number of participants. Participants in the military operations to defend Pridnestrovie, the families of the victims, the leadership of the country and the city, foreign guests, representatives of state administrations, members of public organizations and patriotic movements, and residents of Bendery come here from all over the republic and from other countries.
The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky lays flowers on behalf of the entire Pridnestrovian people. The procession of the memorial complex begins at the Eternal Flame, lit on the first anniversary of the Bendery tragedy at the pedestal of the Infantry Fighting Vehicle, a combat vehicle that participated in the defense of Pridnestrovie. The metal survived the war, but eight crew members did not. The names of two remain unknown.
The next point on the memorial procession is the chapel-bell tower, erected on the territory of the memorial in 1995 on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the republic. Next is the monument to General Lebed, who stopped the bloodshed, and the wall of memory, on five slabs of which the names of the dead are carved. The wall not only preserves memory, but also symbolizes the defense of the city. The PMR President laid a presidential wreath at it.
