28 Jan., 2026, 14:39

A meeting of the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky and a delegation from the European Union, led by Deputy Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia at the European External Action Service Audrone Perkauskiene took place at the presidential executive office. The delegation included Iwona Piorko, Head of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova. Deputy Prime Ministers Sergei Obolonik and Vitaly Neagu, the PMR Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev, Advisor to the PMR President Pavel Prokudin and Head of the Republic's Sanitary Service Natalia Beril were invited to the working discussion from the Pridnestrovian side.

Welcoming the guests, Vadim Krasnoselsky thanked them for their visit, which took place despite the unfavorable weather conditions. He emphasized the importance of working contacts, noting that peace is the most important and complex issue on any negotiating agenda. According to Vadim Krasnoselsky, this is not easy preserving it, but restoring it is far more difficult. The President noted with satisfaction that Pridnestrovie, Moldova, and other participants in the "5+2" format are committed to a peaceful settlement. He emphasized that the "Permanent Conference..." format, while maintaining its legal legitimacy, is inactive in practice. This has been the case since 2019. Therefore, citing the Russian-Ukrainian conflict as an impeding factor is unfounded. Moreover, representatives of these two countries are currently interacting in other venues. Vadim Krasnoselsky spoke about the relevance of the institution of "arbitration" at all times and in all spheres, including at the geopolitical level. The PMR President considers claims that the "5+2" has exhausted its potential unfounded. The existence of working (expert) groups, at a minimum, demonstrates the format's necessity and viability. Vadim Krasnoselsky considers that political will and a shared understanding that any conflict ends at the negotiating table are needed for the format to function fully and be as effective as possible. Everything has its time and place. The interim stage requires maintaining dialogue.

Audrone Perkauskiene spoke in favor of constructive and pragmatic dialogue. The Ambassador recalled that the European Union was founded on the foundations of democracy, peace, stability, and cooperation. All of this is very important to us. She emphasized that the EU aims to provide various opportunities, both economic and humanitarian, aimed at improving people's well-being.

A discussion of specific issues on the working agenda took place, following the protocol portion of the meeting, this time without the participation of the media.
